The “aloha spirit” comes to New York with the sweet sounds of slack key guitar (called Hawaii's soul or back porch music) and the beautiful art of hula. Keola Beamer is a virtuoso of slack key guitar (kï hö alu), one of the great acoustic guitar traditions in the world. An engaging veteran performer on guitar and Hawaiian nose flute (ÿ ohe hano ihu), he has been a leader in the Hawaiian cultural renaissance since the 1970s. He is joined by his wife, Moana Beamer, who is renowned for her mastery of traditional hula dancing; she also plays several ancient Hawaiian percussive instruments, including iliili, kä eke eke and ipu. Keola and Moana are joined by the Grammy-nominated vocalist Raiatea Helm and chanter/dancer Charles Ka'upu.
